Saudi Arabia: Online visit visa for expat families

The Interior Ministry will soon activate its online facility where expatriates can apply for visas for their spouses and children.

The new service was launched by Deputy Crown Prince Muhammad bin Naif, second deputy premier and minister of interior, last Tuesday.

Users must first register for the Abshir services of the ministry, which facilitates online requests from citizens and expatriates in English and Arabic, a source said.

Revenues of the Saudi listed industrial investment firms grew by 29 percent to SR24 billion in 2014 compared to SR18.5 billion in 2013, according to a financial report.

Meanwhile, net profits of the sector dropped by 7.3 percent to SR2.9 billion compared to SR3.11 billion in the comparable periods, Al-Hayat daily said in a report.

Saudi Arabia: Saudi dish Kabsa gains popularity in Canada

Kabsa has gained popularity in a small town in the Canadian province of British Colombia. Two Saudi students from Al-Ahsa have opened a restaurant, Ooh Kabsa, specializing in the Saudi dish.

The restaurant, which serves a variety of Saudi and Arab dishes, has become popular with both Arabs and Canadians, Although Ali Abdullah was working as a doctor in a local hospital, this has not kept him from participating in the launch of the restaurant.

“We opened the restaurant early last February, after a nine-month process, and I do the administrative part and my partner takes care of the cooking. We now have 16 people working with us, including Saudis, Ukrainians, Canadians, Indians, Palestinians and Brazilians,” he said.
